Poem

Love
Marli Trecartin
Fall down; crushed by a rose petal
The softness clawing at your face
What was once accepted you have now rejected
The kindness causing pain
What words must be spoken to show you love?
Has love never been what it should?
When words of admiration are spoken
They sting your heart
If you were exalted would you be cut?
When they say you are beautiful
Let it not be as a dagger piercing your heart
Let tears of love come wash your pain
Let it heal your wounded soul
Take in once more the scent of the rose
Feel the velvet of its touch
Do not cower when affection is shown
Let not your fear drive you to run
Come to love
See its beauty
Let it teach you
Let it mold you
Come to love and learn to love
Love will not push you
Love will not hurt you
Love is soft
Love can heal
Stand up; hold a rose
Feel the silky petals
Let kindness be a kiss
Will you let love in?
